David Choe Artist Statement + Show SNEAK PEAK

David Choe - 'Nothing To Declare'

    ARTIST STATEMENT

I am a typical artist, so I’m definitely my own worst enemy, my irritable bowel syndrome being a close second, I self destruct constantly, I suicide bomb my own shit weekly, and destroy everything that is good and pure in my life. I love and hate L.A. I was born and raised here, this is the city where I first fought, fucked, farted, and rioted. I fucking love the shit out of this city and I hate it with all my heart. This is the city that never gave me an art show so I had to exhibit at an ice cream parlor. I want to burn this city to the ground. This is the city that came out in hundreds to see my movie premiere and made my parents proud. I want to face fuck this city. Either way it's been way too long Los Angeles, and I’m sorry I had to leave in the first place, but you were really annoying the shit out of me, but I forgive you, I’m sorry I left you when you needed me most, i've seen these horrible atrocious art shows you’ve been subject to, I seen these wacked out gimmicky douchey group shows and art walks you been sexually and mentally harassed by. I’m here to tell you, I’m coming soon and maybe you’ll appreciate me and not to take me for granted this time. Let's make the dysfunction work for us, ok ? I promise to try harder if you try harder. It’s been 6 long year since my last show here in Los Angeles when you fucked me and I left you. In that time I seen things, I’ve heard things, I’ve felt things I’ve never felt before, I been hitch hiking all over the globe, I been to Japanese jails, African jnugles, Chineses torture chambers, the Whitehouse, and to all 7 levels of hell and back. In April 2010 I will have my first solo art show in BEVERLY HILLS with Lazarides. I will take all my love, all my hate, all my pain, all my rage, all my suffering and all my skills and experience I've collected over the years. Everything I’ve learned in every medium from watercolors to oils to spraypaint. I’m gonna express everything I feel about this city and what it is to live and die and be born again in the city of angels… Los Angeles I’m coming home and when I come this time, I’m gonna come harder than I ever have before!!  - david choe

    Banksy Hits Los Angeles Again..

Here are some new fun pieces by uber artist Banksy. I like the fact he is taking the piss out of artist Jeff Koons in the above shot. The image below is no doubt a statement about there being no where for kids to grow up and play any more. Everything is a parking lot no a days. I LOVE BANKSY!!

David Choe 'Nothing To Declare' Art Show Details

Opening: Wednesday April 23, 2010 Exhibition Runs: April 23 - May 23, 2010 Location: 320 North Beverly Drive, Beverly Hills CA 90210 Lazarides Gallery is pleased to announce artist David Choe's exhibition 'Nothing To Declare'. The extremely prolific Choe has been hard at work creating new paintings, drawings, and sculptures for the 8,000 sq ft space in Beverly Hills. Driven by an unquenchable thirst for life, Choe saps every possible drop of experience - good or bad - out of his tremendous adventures. From incarceration in a Tokyo jail to hitchhiking down the Mississippi River via paddleboat, freight train hopping city to city and hunting for dinosaurs in the Congo jungle, David weaves these encounters into his work projecting a dramatic and fantastical, often sexually explicit, vision of the world. As one of the most technically proficient artists around today, no media is left untouched. Utilizing a combination of spray paint, oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache and urine, Choe works his magic on wood, cardboard, polyurethane and canvas. From the artist who first exhibited in an ice-cream parlor, expect no less than a sensory melting pot of life seen through his eyes:

“I will take all my love all my hate all my pain all my rage, all my suffering and all my skills and experience I’ve collected over the years everything I’ve learned in every medium from watercolors to oils to spray paint I’m gonna express everything I feel about this city and what it is to live and die and be born again in the city of angels..." Jermaine Rogers 'Alice In Chains' Seattle, Portland, San Francisco + Hollywood Print Releases

Here are the latest releases from artist Jermaine Rogers. This Autumn, the mighty Alice In Chains got back on the road to support the release of their first studio album in years. The shows all sold out in advance and the crowds were treated to amazing shows on these intimate theater dates. The band contacted Jermaine and hired him to do the Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Hollywood prints for the tour. The prints were scarfed up by attendees: the band purchased the entire signed and numbered regular editions from Jermaine and sold these out at the shows. Now, through an arrangement with the band's management, Jermaine will make available his artist proof copies of these prints. These ultra-rare screenprinted A/P's are signed by Jermaine and only a very limited number of each of the four different prints exist.

All 4 prints will be available around 4pm on Tuesday, November 24th, 2009.

Greg Craola Simkins 'The Pearl Thief' Show Details

Here are the details of the upcoming show by artist Greg 'Craola' Simkins, it is called 'The Pearl Thief' and it tells the story of a greedy monster, which travels the world stealing the imaginations of unsuspecting souls. The stolen imaginations exist in the form of pearl, but not the type of pearl that we are familiar with. In Simkins' world, the pearl holds much more value. "Inside of everyone's mind, there is a place which holds all the ideas, all the thoughts and creativity that a person will need for a life time. We have some notion of it from our dreams where it sometimes surfaces as a cloud of images jumbled together. In fact it is in the deepest part of our dreams where these confused clouds become most potent and luminous. This my friends is a Pearl. It is also what 'The Pearl Thief' lusts for the most and has devoted his entire existence to taking each and every one in to his possession, both as treasure and as currency."

To stop 'The Pearl Thief' and return all of the stolen imaginations, there is an interactive puzzle that the gallery has created for Simkins fans and gallery patrons.  When solved, the puzzle will lead them guests to a free 5 x 5 inch, original Simkins painting! The Pearl Thief art show runs from Tuesday November 3rd - November 25 th at Gallery 1988 Los Angeles
